Nice going!

I quite like the looks of that twin-engine B-17 :D

Thanks! Should be starting back up on it shortly...
-------------------------------------------------------
Had a major scare right over Xmas/New Years... and not sure if it can/will get fixed...

Was sorting my files in prep to push a ton of stuff to the cloud (something I had been working on for a while), and then the day before I could start uploading everything, my motherboard effectively died, fortunately I had finished sorting all my files to one of my additional hard drives.

So I took the drive out and took the PC to a local repair shop. They swapped out the bad board and got the system running again, right before New Years. Got the computer set back up over New Years...

... and went to remount all of my internal hard drives, and the one everything had been sorted onto would not register. Tried all of my SATA ports and even got a powered external adapter, but the drive wouldn't even power on.

Found a recovery service and shipped the drive to them a week ago... heard back from them this week... dead control chip, but the Power, Motor, Read/Write Element, and Disks all appear to be good, so they are very hopeful.

Finger-crossed, because that drive has a combined 24+ years of my life on it.

Luckily, all of my 3D Projects (except for the last week of work on the B-17) were already backed up to the cloud previously...

...but that drive also has all my photos, downloaded software, personal paperwork (including military & healthcare records I'll need for the VA, when I retire in ~3 years... some of which can no longer be easily reacquired), and a bunch of other non-replaceable data.

Should hopefully hear something Mon/Tues on whether they are actually going to be able recover it and how long it will take.

If they can, as soon as I get it back, I'll be creating multiple backups to everything :)

That was too close!!!

Heard back from the recovery service (salvagedata.com) Th/Fr... the control chip on the drive, and possibly the motor, was shot, but disks and read/write element were in perfect condition. Recovery specialist was very hopeful that they could recover most if not everything (~2TB of data) and if everything went smoothly, it would take 2-5 days. Got a price estimate for if they managed to recover everything and gave them the go ahead.

Got a msg Monday, with the folder/file index that was recoverable... they were able to recover 99.9999999999% of the data... only a single file was unrecoverable (and it was a junk file :D ). Paid for the recovery and they shipped the data on a new drive by end of day. Got the drive today and am in the process of pushing everything back to my system and then pushing everything to our family cloud backup.

Got to setup my printer/scanner and buy ink/paper, because there is a ton of paperwork that needs to be printed out (I can retire from the military in ~3 years!), as well as a bunch of new paperwork to scan and add to my archives.

-------------------------------------

Should be getting back into the B-17 over the next couple of days, now that I have the most recent files back!

UPDATE!!!

Got my files back and everything has been set back up and pushed to the cloud!

If you ever have a similar issue, I can't recommend https://www.salvagedata.com/ enough!

Now if I can just finish my performance review paperwork for my subordinates, I might be able to actually do some 3D stuff this weekend! :D
